Online RPG Games or Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Games offer players something of a hypostatic reality. They are self sustaining and follow the rules set by its creators. The beauty of online rpg games is that they are more than the sum of parts, they are the combination of programming and imagination. It goes into all directions, the unexpected and the unscripted unfolds from the program. But does it really? It is all in your imagination, everything is virtual. However, the player has nearly limitless freedom within the limitations of the game to express his own individuality. It is a community where players can interact, but the realm itself is all in the imagination.Yet it has consequences, and time passes.

When real life gets boring and dull, online rpg games allow players to engange in a new type of freedom. The virtual reality of the game can replace and allow people to forget the troubles and problems that come with the monotony of real life. If 50 people are sitting in a crowded cyber café, filled with cigarette smoke, drinking coffee, soft drinks, and so on while the traffic rushes by three floors below, their minds are far removed from the immediate situation. It is like a mind altering state of being, deep imagination into the virtual world of the Massively Multiplayer Online Game. One brushes it off, shrugs, and heads out into the rain. The metropolis has become night. People of every class, religion and background come together in this virtual environment passing time whether situated in a cyber café or at home. The thought that there are people in this world who have never seen a computer never crosses their mind.

There is obviously an important element of over-developed, post-modern capitalism at play. Hyper-reality, the imaginary environment is at times more real than real. This is the power of ideas and dreams in online rpg games. Whether or not these games are a substitute for reality begs the question, as they cannot be separated from reality. The debate is why do humans choose to pass their time in these Massively Multiplayer Games with all of the available in life at the same time?
